| Abstract Scope |
KBR recently was involved in the construction of storage tanks in a new plant. Due to the large amount of welding operation, deformation of tank bottom was inevitable while the large number of plates were assembled together to form the tank bottom. To reduce the deformation to acceptable level, a collection of techniques was implemented, including the adoption of optimal welding sequence, the preform of anti-deformation joints, minimizing the welding heat input, and straightening after welding. The selected use of different techniques was the key to ensuring a successful tank bottom construction activity. |
