| Abstract Scope |
The construction sector is a major consumer of natural resources and a significant generator of construction and demolition waste (CDW), resulting in considerable environmental impacts. This study presents a literature review on the main sources of CDW generation and strategies for reducing its environmental burden. National and international publications on CDW management, circular economy, recycled aggregates, reverse logistics, industrial and agro-industrial by-products, and digital construction technologies were analyzed. The reviewed studies indicate that source segregation, recycling, the use of recycled aggregates, incorporation of by-products into cementitious materials, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and industrialized construction systems can significantly reduce material waste and improve resource efficiency. The findings highlight that minimizing the environmental impacts of the construction sector requires integrating sustainable technologies, effective waste management, public policies, and innovative construction practices, supporting the transition toward a more circular and resource-efficient built environment. |
