| Abstract Scope |
As the magnesium industry keeps growing, the large amount of magnesium slag produced during magnesium smelting has become an important solid byproduct limiting the green development of the industry. Magnesium slag is not only metallurgical waste but also a potential secondary resource. Making full use of it is closely related to reducing solid waste and environmental management, as well as the extended use of magnesium metallurgical byproducts and the development of high-value functional materials. The traditional Pidgeon process widely used in industry today still has many drawbacks. Mainly, the production process is intermittent, energy consumption is high, and it produces a lot of solid waste, making it hard to achieve a coordinated and integrated approach to magnesium smelting and byproduct resource utilization. This paper, based on the principle of relative vacuum, uses MgCO3 or MgO as raw materials and Al as a reducing agent to build a continuous magnesium smelting reaction system. This allows magnesium reduction and continuous production while simultaneously generating magnesium slag mainly composed of magnesium-aluminum spinel. This provides new research ideas and technical routes for the integrated development of environmentally friendly continuous magnesium production and high-value utilization of magnesium slag. |
