| Abstract Scope |
Reactions in smelting and refining processes proceed under high-temperature and non-steady-state conditions. To understand these complex processes in detail, it is crucial to perform real-time, in-situ observations of the reactions as they progress and to identify the governing factors. Therefore, establishing advanced monitoring techniques has long been a major focus of our research.
This paper reviews our key achievements over the past decade in developing in-situ observation techniques using various optical methods and examines the distinct phenomena captured through them. Specifically, we describe the crystallization of oxide melts, interfacial reactions between magnetite and sulfide, and the successful visualization of both the dissolution process of slag into water and the solute enrichment process during model alloy solidification using fluorescence microscopy. |
