| Abstract Scope |
Graphene oxide (GO) has been extensively investigated as a multifunctional nanofiller for enhancing the mechanical performance of fiber-reinforced polymer composites by improving fiber–matrix interfacial bonding. This study evaluates the influence of GO on the ballistic performance of hybrid flax/aramid composites manufactured under identical processing conditions. Ballistic tests using 9 mm full metal jacket (FMJ) projectiles were performed under complete perforation conditions, and performance was assessed through residual velocity (Vres), absorbed energy (ΔE), and specific energy absorption (SEA). Statistical analyses were conducted using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test. GO incorporation resulted in a residual velocity of 363.95 ± 10.09 m/s, representing a 2.13% increase compared with the GO-free composite. The results are discussed considering the role of GO in improving interfacial adhesion, promoting efficient stress transfer, delaying crack propagation, and modifying delamination mechanisms during projectile penetration, providing insights into the design of lightweight ballistic composite structures |
