| Abstract Scope |
Plasmonic nanostructures offer unique opportunities as functional building blocks in advanced nanocomposite materials because of their tunable optical properties, high surface-area-to-volume ratios, and surface-sensitive interfacial behavior. This presentation highlights recent progress in the controlled synthesis, surface modification, and integration of gold- and silver-based nanostructures into multifunctional nanocomposite platforms. Emphasis is placed on how nanoscale design and interfacial engineering govern material performance, particularly through localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). Representative systems include surface-functionalized plasmonic nanocomposites for selective interactions with target molecules and environmental contaminants, including PFAS associated with micro- and nanoplastics (PFAS@MNPs). Heterostructured composite platforms that combine plasmonic domains with functional carrier architectures are also discussed as examples of materials designed for synergistic optical and transport behavior. Advanced optical characterization methods are employed to probe nanomaterial interactions and establish structure-property relationships critical for optimizing high-performance nanocomposites for sensing, remediation, and advanced materials applications. |
