| Abstract Scope |
As-cast metallic glasses relax continuously as a function of time and temperature, which may lead to significant property changes. In search for a better structural understanding of aging of metallic glasses, we exploit here simulated 4DSTEM across different iso-thermal annealing above and below the glass transition temperature. We begin with recapping our findings for binary Lennard-Jones glasses and subsequently transition to chemically different Cu-Zr-Al glasses. Pronounced differences in the symmetry related signature and statistical populations are seen with physical aging into the microsecond time-scale domain, with structural evolution that strongly depends on the chemistry of the evaluated ternary alloy. We discuss this chemistry-dependent aging behavior in terms of the underlying evolution of dominant motifs, network formation, and cluster growth in these model glasses. |
