Abstract Scope |
Multi-principal element alloys (MPEAs), a new class of alloys, have emerged from high entropy alloys (HEAs) due to the presence of multiple principal elements. Among these alloys, TiMoNbZr alloys serve as promising lightweight MPEA regarding their impressive mechanical and structural properties across a wide temperature range. This current study focuses on the synthesis and development of TiMoNbZr-based MPEAs and investigates the effect of alloying elements such as Hf, Ta and W on phase formation, microstructure and mechanical properties of TiMoNbZr MPEAs using combined characterization techniques including X-ray diffraction(XRD), optic microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), hardness and uniaxial compression testing. In addition, thermodynamic modeling using Thermo-Calc software is utilized to predict phase stability. This study will present and discuss the guidance of compositional complexity and the utility of thermodynamic modeling in the development of next-generation high-performance MPEAs. |
