| Abstract Scope |
Human diseases affecting cardiovascular tissue necessitates replacement of the affected tissue for a healthy living. Replacement of the damaged tissue with autologous or heterologous tissues are not often feasible . Hence a viable alternative is implantable biocompatible biomaterials. Of all the available traditional methods of biomaterial/implant development, 3-D printing has emerged as a personalized and cost-effective technology which finds wide applications in cardiovascular implants. The incorporation of gold or silver nanoparticles in biomaterials for cardiovascular applications has resulted in improved outcomes. Advances in the field of functionalized hydrogels have contributed to developments in cardiovascular biomaterial applications. Biomimetic coatings and low temperature plasma biomaterials have improved the biocompatibility in soft tissue applications. Smart biomaterials which respond to various physiological parameters are useful in drug delivery and monitoring of the responsiveness of biomaterials in cardiovascular applications. The recent advances in biomaterials will definitely help in offering patient-specific therapeutic strategies in cardiovascular applications. |
