Abstract Scope |
Most of the electronic products we use are loaded with precious and rare metals that can be recovered by using efficient methods of upcycling or recycling. This secondary processes not only provide a rich resource but also save energy in recovering these from the waste. The concept of recycling and upcycling is being adopted in many countries but the reduction in the environmental impact has not been evaluated. The present study aims to assess the environmental impact of primary extraction and the secondary extraction processes to enable a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the environmental impact of these practices. The need for circularity in the rare and precious metals is emphasized through the evidences provided in the study. |
