| Abstract Scope |
The accumulation of fission products in liquid-fueled molten salt reactors can perturb the local structure of the fuel salt. Since the local structure governs many of the thermophysical and transport properties important for reactor operation, understanding these structural changes is essential for predicting salt behavior throughout the fuel cycle and informing fuel monitoring and reprocessing strategies. In this talk, I will present scattering measurements on Cs-containing FLiBe and the UCl₃-NaCl eutectic containing Te, Zr, and Eu. To interpret the experimental measurements, we constructed atomistic structural models using reverse Monte Carlo (EPSR) together with neural network molecular dynamics simulations trained on ab initio molecular dynamics. I will discuss the resulting changes in local structure, nearest-neighbor distances, coordination numbers, and network connectivity induced by these dissolved species. |
