| Abstract Scope |
Phase Change Materials (PCMs) have emerged as a promising solution for energy efficiency due to their ability to store and release thermal energy via latent heat during phase transitions. One way to use this material to improve thermal comfort in buildings is by incorporating it into walls. This study analyzes the impact of incorporating a paraffin-based PCM into a cementitious mortar. The material was incorporated into a cementitious mortar with a 1:1:6 mix ratio (cement, lime, and sand) as a replacement for a portion of the sand. Mortars containing 10% and 20% PCM were analyzed and classified according to the NBR 13281 standard regarding fresh-state properties: density, entrapped air content, and water retention. The results indicated that the addition of PCM reduced the density and entrapped air content of the mixture while increasing water retention. Further studies are needed to assess the impact on mechanical properties in the hardened state. |
