Abstract Scope |
In Bayer process, the whiteness of hydrate is critical parameter in applications like cosmetics, filler and high-end ceramic. All alumina refineries use the recycled Bayer liquor for alumina extraction and use of different additives in refineries adds up the impurities in liquor. Over a period, the impurities build up and reduce the whiteness of the hydrate, the impact diminishes when addition is stopped.
In this study innovative approach of adding MgO in Bayer Liquor was investigated to understand its impact on whiteness of hydrate. The controlled MgO dosing alters the liquor chemistry and affects impurity incorporation during hydrate precipitation and supress the effect of the humates and other organics impurities of recycled liquor on the product hydrate. The findings suggest, precise control of MgO addition can enhance hydrate whiteness from 84 to 90%. The quality of Bayer liquor is unaltered in terms of causticity and ratio in the Bayer process. |
