| Abstract Scope |
Spectroscopic measurements allow one to obtain valuable information about electronic states of a material, particularly those states within the band gap associated with impurities and defect centers. Ionoluminescence (IL) combines the high sensitivity of luminescence techniques with the broad excitation spectrum and intense electronic density achievable with ion irradiation, allowing one to study essentially all optically active transitions.
The cryo-IL has been particularly useful in studying the unique properties of oxide perovskites, such as strontium titanate and potassium tantalate, key functional materials for advanced electronic, catalytic, and photochemical devices. IL has provided new insights into carrier transport phenomena, the nature of luminescence centers, and the effects of ion radiation on such properties. This talk will summarize research on oxide perovskites and briefly mention the use of the IL for studying other materials with diverse structures and properties including: quartz and silica, sapphire, diamond, gallium oxide, high entropy garnets, and AlGaN. |
