Abstract Scope |
Due to its superior properties, Ni-based alloy is widely used in many extreme applications, e.g., super heat-resistant alloys. Among various alloying elements to satisfy demanding performance, Al is known to play an important role in controlling the stacking fault energy and securing high-temperature strength. Since not much is known about the Al deoxidation equilibrium in molten Ni alloy with high Al content, it is necessary to investigate the effect of Al on the equilibrium oxygen concentration in the molten Ni alloys with Al content more than 1.0 wt%. In this study, molten Ni-Al alloys with a wide range of Al were equilibrated in Al2O3 crucibles under an Ar-3%H2 atmosphere at 1873K. Based on the measured concentrations of Al and O, the Al deoxidation equilibrium in molten Ni was analyzed using Wagner Interaction Parameter Formalism, Quadratic Formalism based on the regular solution model, and Modified Quasichemical Model in pair approximation.
