| Abstract Scope |
Here we present on the development of novel phase graded steel alloys for automotive structural components. The approach utilizes alloying and processing modifications to typical automotive steels to achieve both composition and phase grading through the sheet thickness by rapid decarburization in controlled atmospheres in order to achieve superior combinations of strength and ductility. Modeling and simulation approaches were used to develop compositional modifications and processing windows. The modeling and experimental results, including microstructure and mechanical properties, will be discussed. |
