| Abstract Scope |
Recent computational studies have revealed that grain boundary (GB) segregation energy exhibits a spectral behavior, resulting in a non-uniform solute concentration both along individual boundaries and across the whole microstructure. As a result, other GB-related microstructural features, including GB structure and GB precipitates, are also expected to exhibit similar heterogeneous behavior. In the present study, the GB segregation spectrum, corresponding GB structure, and GB precipitate characteristics are investigated in both binary and multicomponent aluminum alloys using advanced analytical transmission electron microscopy techniques. Correlations among these GB features are established, providing new insights into GB behavior and paving the way for more premise alloy design through interface engineering. |
