| Abstract Scope |
Mine tailings represent a secondary source of valuable metals; however, their heterogeneity limits the efficiency of leaching processes. In this study, the heterogeneity of a mining tailings deposit was evaluated using sequential extraction, and the effect of phosphate ion concentration on a thiourea leaching system for silver recovery was investigated. Additionally, Pourbaix diagrams were used to analyze the thermodynamic stability of the species present. The results showed that the addition of phosphate promotes silver leaching, achieving extractions of 49.15% Ag, 30.89% Fe, and 14.64% Cu at 15 min, using 0.1 mol L⁻¹ of thiourea and 0.05 mol L⁻¹ of phosphate, at 30 °C and pH 1.5. These results demonstrate that the heterogeneity of the tailings and the phosphate concentration influence the efficiency of the thiourea-phosphate system for silver recovery. |
