Abstract Scope |
Single point incremental forming (SPIF) offers high process flexibility but suffers from geometrical inaccuracies due to springback. While post-process springback is measurable using conventional methods, capturing it in-situ during forming remains a challenge. This study presents a novel in-situ approach to quantify both local (in-process) and global (post-process) springback. A camera mounted on the machine bed captures images continuously during SPIF, from which component profiles are extracted using image processing. Springback is quantified by comparing these profiles with the ideal geometry at various forming depths. Experiments are conducted on AA6061-O, AA6061-T6, and SS304 to provide a comprehensive assessment. Among them, AA6061-O exhibits the least deviation from ideal profile, while AA6061-T6 and SS304 show considerably higher and comparable deviations. This trend is consistently observed in both local and global springback. Finite element simulations are also performed for all cases, showing close agreement with experimental results. |
