| Abstract Scope |
Intercalation tunes vdW layered materials for multifunctional applications, yet intercalation chemistry of non-vdW nanolaminates (MAX phases) and their MXene derivatives remains poorly understood. This work establishes a chemical-scissor-mediated structural editing route: chemical scissors open interlayer gaps, followed by guest intercalation to produce diverse unconventional MAX phases and terminated MXenes. Metal scissors also enable reverse MXene-to-MAX transformation by stripping surface groups and stitching ceramic slabs. This strategy broadens structural and chemical engineering of layered ceramics. |
