| Abstract Scope |
Molten salt reactors offer significant safety and efficiency advantages, but corrosion of structural materials remains a critical challenge. This complex process involves coupled redox-species transport, electron transfer, and interfacial phenomena, which are commonly probed using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). However, interpreting these experimental signals can be ambiguous. To bridge this gap, we adopt a phase-field model to simulate CV and EIS measurements in molten salt. The sensitivity of simulated voltammograms and impedance spectra is examined. After validation of the key features against analytical solutions and experimental measurements, the model is applied to simulate the electrochemical response of a Ni-Cr alloy in molten salt. This framework provides a flexible computational tool for deconvolving complex experimental data and interpreting how diffusion, reaction rates, non-ideal mixing, and charge-transfer asymmetry manifest in CV and EIS spectra. |
