| Abstract Scope |
Engineering for One Planet (EOP) is a Lemelson Foundation funded initiative that is generating sustainability focussed lessons into all undergraduate engineering education. The EOP framework consists of 9 themes including Materials. However the Materials theme is woefully inadequate, only including materials selection and completely ignoring materials design. Materials experts such as those engaging in the Judson symposium are needed to fix this deficit.
This talk will offer a pathway to get TMS involved with injecting the massive contributions of materials design to sustainability into the EOP framework. The talk will include a brief description of the EOP framework and suggest ways that TMS, via the education committee and other working committees of TMS, can form an editorial board to generate new material that is appropriate for faculty in materials science and engineering programs as well as other disciplines. Input and discussion from attendees is encouraged |
