| Abstract Scope |
Quantitative experimental measurements of grain boundary segregation continue to be a significant gap for understanding the thermodynamics of grain boundaries. While atomic resolution techniques have increased the understanding of individual boundaries, accurate measurements that span entire polycrystals are of relevance in light of modern spectral segregation models. Here, we detail a high-throughput experimental methodology to measure the average grain boundary concentration of polycrystals. We first detail the theoretical considerations to identify a model binary system for detailed analysis. We then perform the measurements and validate them against atomic resolution imaging by scanning transmission electron microscopy. The result is a new experimental pathway to understand segregation. |
