| Abstract Scope |
The increasing demand for sustainable engineering materials has promoted the development of bio-based composites reinforced with natural lignocellulosic fibers. Banana pseudostem fiber is an abundant agricultural residue with promising mechanical properties, while castor oil-based polyurethane offers a renewable alternative to conventional polymer matrices. However, the mechanical behavior of biocomposites reinforced with banana pseudostem fiber in laminar configuration remains largely unexplored.
In this study, biocomposites reinforced with banana pseudostem fiber in laminar configuration and castor oil-based polyurethane resin were developed and evaluated by tensile, compression, and Izod impact tests. Fracture surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to investigate failure mechanisms and fiber–matrix interfacial behavior. The combined analyses correlated the mechanical performance with the fracture characteristics of the biocomposites. The results demonstrate the potential of this bio-based system for engineering applications, providing insights into load transfer, damage evolution, and fracture mechanisms. |
