| Abstract Scope |
Robotic MIG welding operations are under constant pressure to improve throughput while reducing post-weld labor and total cost per part. This presentation examines the performance advantages of low-silicon ER70S filler metals, with a focus on copper-coated/Non-Copper coated ER70S-9 GMAW filler wires engineered to minimize slag formation and silica islands. By optimizing wire chemistry, low-silicon wires significantly reduce silicon oxide residues that can interfere with downstream painting, coating, or galvanizing processes.
Drawing on both laboratory data and real-world robotic welding applications, the session will compare low-silicon ER70S wires to conventional ER70S products in terms of arc stability, bead appearance, cleanup time, and suitability for high-volume, single-pass & multi-pass welds. Attendees will gain practical insight into how low-silicon consumables help automotive, heavy equipment, and fabricated metal manufacturers shorten cycle times, reduce rework, and improve surface quality before finishing operations—ultimately delivering measurable productivity and cost benefits. |
