| Abstract Scope |
Direct electric current heating of specimens utilized in GleebleŽ thermomechanical simulators ensures precise temperature control and also makes it possible to create controlled temperature gradients in the specimens. This expands testing capabilities and offers wide variety of new testing procedures for evaluation of materials high temperature behavior. Using the carefully designed thermal gradients not only allows for substantial reduction in number of tests, as well as for time and material savings, but also helps revealing certain features of dynamic materials behavior hardly assessable in isothermal simulations. Examples of thermal gradient techniques and simulation results are presented and discussed in detail. |
