| Abstract Scope |
We investigate three drug introduction methods into a hydrogel matrix and examine their release. These methods include molecular imprinted hydrogels, hydrogels with no molecular imprinting, and off-the-shelf samples that are commercially available. All samples were soaked in a saline drug solution containing a concentration of timolol maleate, and the drug release concentration was characterized using UV-Visible spectroscopy. We report that all three methods effectively uptake of drug into the hydrogel matrix, and that all three methods are effective in the release of the drug. In addition, we investigated the release from the hydrogel matrix through the interface of a cadaveric biological system and report on the drug release. We further report that, while the drug uptake and release does not appear to be reversible, the uptake and release occurs over several cycles, indicating that the drug can be reintroduced into the polymer matrix. |
