Mechanical properties of four TiZrVCuBe bulk metallic glass-matrix composites (BMG-MCs) were investigated using a high-throughput multiresolution spherical indentation technique. Elastic and plastic properties of the amorphous matrix and crystalline dendritic phases were extracted through indentation stress-strain analysis at two length scales using 1 and 500 µm radius spherical indenters. Analysis of the 1 µm indentation responses provided statistical insight into shear band initiation and evolution within the amorphous regions as a function of alloy composition. In addition, rotationally invariant two-point spatial statistics were employed to quantify the complex morphology and spatial distribution of dendritic phases. The 500 µm indentation measurements were used to correlate composition-dependent microstructural variations with bulk mechanical response. This integrated approach combining statistical microstructure quantification and multiscale mechanical characterization provides insight into phase contributions and deformation mechanisms governing strength and plasticity in Ti-based BMG-MCs. |
