| Abstract Scope |
Through layer-by-layer or voxel-by-voxel manipulation of composition deposited, compositionally functionally graded materials (FGMs) have the potential to provide multifunctional components with spatially varying properties. However, when depositing materials using liquid-phase processing, determining what materials may be adjacent to each other without cracking is critical. This talk will describe our experimentally validated computational tools for determining the feasibility of depositing, using AM, multicomponent compositions to produce crack-free compositional pathways suitable for FGM processing. It will also discuss case studies of in situ gas phase alloying Ti-6Al-4V with nitrogen and co-design of part geometry and composition for desired component behavior. |
