Abstract Scope |
Derailments in railway vehicles occur for various reasons, and among them, derailment due to damage to the axle bearings is a representative example. If there is a problem with the axle bearing, it will lead to heat generation and the destruction of the wheel and axle, making a major accident inevitable. In this study, a system capable of early diagnosis and monitoring of the condition of axle bearings was developed. Infrared thermography technology was applied to monitor the temperature of the axle bearings at all times. Moreover, it was installed on the railway track and tested on various types of railway vehicles actually in operation, and it was confirmed that real-time temperature monitoring is possible. In addition, it was found that the results can be used to diagnose the condition of axle bearings in actual fields. |
