| Abstract Scope |
Vitrified bonds are glass-based inorganic binders widely used in precision grinding tools because of their high strength, thermal stability, and dimensional accuracy. In diamond and cubic boron nitride (CBN) tools, the formation of the glass phase, sintering behavior, and interfacial bonding strongly influence grinding performance and tool life. This study investigates the effects of V2O5 and TiO2 contents on the microstructure and properties of vitrified bonds and vitrified bond CBN composites. The distribution of the bond phase and the interfacial microstructure between the vitrified bond and CBN grains under different sintering conditions were examined using SEM and EDS. FTIR and XPS analyses were conducted to evaluate changes in the glass network, chemical bonding states, and interfacial stability. Sintered density, matrix hardness, G-ratio, and the surface roughness of the ground workpieces were also measured to assess the relationship between bond composition, interfacial characteristics, and grinding performance. |
