| Abstract Scope |
New functional materials with both O2- and F1- anions, known as polyanionic oxohalides, have been investigated due to their potential as ionic conductive solid-state materials and light emitting diodes (LEDs). Due to challenges with synthesizing these materials, including requiring HF for dissolving Nb2O5 and existing literature remaining scarce, Na2NbOF5 and Na3NbOF6 been synthesized. X-ray powder diffraction data, collected for each compound, has been analyzed using the Rietveld technique. Improved structural details are required for a complete understanding of the crystal chemistry of the system and materials electrical and optical properties. Both phases were successfully synthesized under hydrothermal conditions combining NaF and Nb2O5 with 47% aqueous HF as a mineralizer. Powder X-ray diffraction data was collected for phase identification and Rietveld analyses was conducted to quantitively determining the phase(s) present and to refine on structural details. |
