| Abstract Scope |
Calciothermic reduction-diffusion process presents a viable economic alternative to the conventional labor- and energy-intensive synthesis of high-purity Nd2Fe14B powders. Synthesis of high-purity material with magnetization value near theoretical remains a bottleneck for this next-generation technology of producing rare earth permanent magnets. Here we report a magnetization value of 162 emu/g in Nd2Fe14B powders produced by single step calciothermic reduction diffusion route that directly converts Nd2O3 to Nd2Fe14B. Additionally, we systematically examined the effect of Fe precursor particle size (10, 20, 45 µm) and excess Ca reducing-agent (5–30 wt.%) on phase formation, microstructure, chemical purity, and room-temperature magnetic properties.
