| Abstract Scope |
Real Density (RD) is a critical process parameter used by kiln optimization systems to support Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven operational decisions. Delays in RD measurements can reduce the effectiveness of these automated controls and impact process efficiency. This project focused on expediting RD analysis results through instrument upgrades and process improvements. Using new helium pycnometers, analysis time was reduced enabling AI systems to receive actionable data faster. Laboratory upgrades, including barcode scanning, direct balance integration, and improved sample containment, minimized manual entry errors and reduced instrument maintenance requirements.
A comprehensive Measurement System Analysis (MSA) was conducted to validate the results provided by the upgraded instrumentation against ASTM D2638 Standard Test Method for Real Density of Calcined Petroleum Coke by Helium Pycnometer requirements. Results demonstrated strong agreement between the old and upgraded instruments, while repeatability and reproducibility testing verified that the method met ASTM precision criteria and delivered consistent measurement performance. |
