| Abstract Scope |
The Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) program under DOE, Office of Nuclear Energy, is coordinating research performed at seven national laboratories allowing teams to work collaboratively and share data, making the path faster in developing the technological foundations to enable MSRs for safe development, deployment and economical operations. An overview of the program will be presented with an emphasis on molten salt chemistry, an update of the thermochemical and thermophysical database, and a perspective on MSR materials research and challenges. An expansion of modeling & simulation capabilities for mechanistic source term analysis and MSR fuel salt chemical balance of plant, as a critical element of reactor licensing, using a combination of MELCOR code assisted with the Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation tools will be discussed. |
