| Abstract Scope |
Upcoming advanced energy systems such as the next generation of nuclear reactors and concentrated solar power plants are proposed to be using more efficient sCO2 Brayton cycle which requires components to operate at higher temperatures. Long-term performance evaluation and reliability estimation of these components is crucial before deploying them in these high-temperature service environments. In this talk we will present a framework that extends and couples srlife, originally developed for solar receiver life estimation, with MOOSE, a general-purpose finite element code to enable system-level life estimation of arbitrary high-temperature ceramic and metallic components. The framework performs thermohydraulic and structural analyses and subsequently uses appropriate damage and reliability models to estimate service life. We demonstrate the approach across multiple component classes, including tubular solar receivers, shell-and-tube heat exchangers, and compact heat exchangers. Parameterized model generation enables systematic design studies aimed at identifying configurations with improved reliability and extended service life. |
