Abstract Scope |
The material jetting additive manufacturing process has a unique capability of simultaneously depositing multiple materials, offering unprecedented design freedom for functional prototyping and customized products. This poster explores the fundamental droplet generation and placement mechanisms with independent control over multiple printheads. Key process parameters influencing deposition accuracy, such as nozzle design, material properties, and curing strategies, will be presented in relation to multi-metal printing. Multi-metal printing has been crucial in developing stronger, corrosion-resistant surfaces for printed electronics and aerospace applications. However, current methods through laser powder bed fusion and direct energy deposition often result in cracking and distortion due to temperature gradients. In addition, these methods are often limited to the fixed alloy composition of the powders. To address the shortcomings of current methods, we propose using a non-contact material jetting system for depositing metal precursor inks on a substrate to form alloys through ex-situ mixing. |
