| Abstract Scope |
Since steelmaking consists of complex multi-phase processes it is necessary to observe interactions between phases. Especially High-Temperature Confocal Scanning Laser Microscopy (HT-CSLM) has proven to be suitable for microscopic in-situ investigation. However, due to the reactivity of steel and slag it is challenging to investigate reactions at the steel/slag interface. A novel method allows for multi-phase analyses concerning steel, slag, and NMI simultaneously with a dual-crucible concept where iron and alumina crucibles are used. In this study, the dissolution of non-metallic inclusions (NMIs) at the interface between steel and a pseudowollastonitic slag is analyzed and compared to dissolution solely in slags. In these observations, a minor amount of FeO can be present in the slag acting as additional flux while the partial submersion of the particle in the steel phase may delay the dissolution. First measurements show linear dissolution of ZrO2 while the dissolution of Al2O3 was slightly slowed down. |
