| Abstract Scope |
Alloying noble metals with earth-abundant elements provides a pathway to tailor composition, structure, and stability in functional nanomaterials for electrocatalysis. However, the evolution of multicomponent systems under operating conditions remains poorly understood. Here, in situ electrochemical liquid-cell transmission electron microscopy (EC-TEM) allows us to directly track the structural and compositional evolution of Pt₃Fe nanoparticles during the hydrogen evolution reaction. Element-specific dissolution, redistribution, and redeposition processes are observed, revealing dynamic phase and morphology changes under electrochemical driving forces. These results establish direct correlations between composition, structural evolution, and stability, providing insight into active-state transformations and guiding the design of robust bimetallic nanomaterials. |
