| Abstract Scope |
This study investigates the some aspects of inclusion engineering, i.e. agglomeration of inclusions in the melt as well as inclusion-induced intragranular ferrite (IGF) formation in Fe-0.2%C steels using high temperature confocal laser scanning microscope (HT-CLSM) under magnetic fields. The obtained results showed that an alternating magnetic field promoted Al₂O₃ inclusion collision and agglomeration behaviors at the melt/Ar interface. A representative inclusion pair separated by 53.42 μm agglomerated within 0.48 s, with the interaction force reaching 5.91 × 10⁻¹⁵ N. A 10 mT. Static magnetic field increased the nucleation temperatures of grain boundary ferrite (GBF) and IGF, and promoted IGF nucleation and growth. The resulting microstructure exhibited a finer interlocking IGF morphology. These findings shed light on the possibility to utilize HT-CLSM under magnetic fields for fundamental study in inclusion engineering area contributing to the application of electromagnetic processing metallurgy (EPM). |
