| Abstract Scope |
This study aims to elucidate the microstructural evolution and high-temperature oxidation behavior of the AlCrFeNiTiₓ high-entropy alloy system subjected to prolonged exposure at temperatures up to 1200 °C. The thermodynamics of oxidation are assessed through the calculation of Ellingham diagrams. Oxidation kinetics are evaluated using the mass-gain method and thermogravimetric analysis, from which the activation energy of oxidation is derived. The microstructures of the samples before and after oxidation, as well as the formed oxide layers, are characterized by scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The microhardness of the material is measured in both the as-cast state and after thermal exposure. The obtained results are compared with those of other alloys designed for high-temperature applications, indicating that further investigation of this alloy system is highly promising. |
