Abstract Scope |
An effective hydrometallurgical recycling route for NMC 811 batteries was developed, focusing on recovering valuable metals from sulfuric acid leachates. This study investigated purification techniques, namely solvent extraction, ion exchange resins, and selective precipitation, to isolate lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese while removing aluminum impurities. The optimized process yielded high-purity solid compounds of LiOH, Ni/Co oxalates, and MnO2. Subsequent life cycle analysis (LCA) of the proposed route, scaled to produce 1000kg of LiOH, quantified the potential environmental impacts. This research provides critical insights into sustainable battery recycling, highlighting a viable pathway for resource recovery and minimizing environmental footprint. |
