| Abstract Scope |
Boron-based materials are widely used for neutron reactivity control because of their strong neutron absorption capability. In this study, boron was investigated as a homogeneously distributed soluble neutron absorber in molten chloride salt rather than as a conventional B4C control rod material. KBF4 was selected as the boron source; however, boron may gradually convert into volatile boron-containing gases, such as BF3 and BCl3, leading to time-dependent changes in boron concentration. Experiments were conducted in molten NaCl-KCl eutectic salt at 700°C, 750°C, and 800°C to evaluate temperature-dependent boron volatilization. Electrochemical techniques were primarily applied to investigate boron redox behavior and quantify concentration changes in real time. UV-Vis absorption analysis was additionally used as a complementary method to support boron concentration measurement. These results provide fundamental insight into boron behavior and concentration-control strategies in molten salt systems. |
