Abstract Scope |
Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) of metals is an inherently porous process. These pores have a significant impact on the fatigue life of parts produced by L-PBF. The fatigue life of parts is also heavily dependent on the temperature of the material. This work investigates the interconnected impact of temperature and porosity on AlSi10Mg parts produced by L-PBF. A yield stress-normalized approach is used to compare the relative fatigue performance of samples at different elevated temperatures and select samples are X-ray CT scanned to track pore morphology throughout testing. The impact of porosity on the relative fatigue life at each of these temperatures is characterized and reconciled with pore morphology data. |
