Abstract Scope |
3D printed electronics is a rapidly advancing field of additive manufacturing, with one key requirement being the fabrication of electrically conductive material on a dielectric substrate according to designed patterns. Metal-organic decomposition (MOD) inks have successfully been demonstrated for such purposes via material jetting or inkjet printing, with thermo- or photo- (UV- or otherwise) curing as an additional processing step for the sintering of the metal ion precursor into solid metal aggregates. This paper shows for the first time the successful processing of silver MOD ink in a cuvette, akin to vat photopolymerization, onto surfaces of varying morphology and material. Glass and paper surfaces of different roughness levels are tested for their affinity with silver formation. The resultant morphologies are characterized under microscopy, and electrical conductivities are measured via multimeters and four-point probe tests. We develop a hypothesis on how silver is decomposed, sintered, and aggregated onto surfaces. |
