| Abstract Scope |
Al 7075 is commonly employed in aerospace structures, though its performance can be compromised by environmental exposure. This work examines the effects of adding silver from 1 to 4 wt% on its nanoindentation behavior. The results show that Ag refines the microstructure and improves hardness and resistance to environmental effects. Nanoindentation testing demonstrates that the addition of Ag led to increases in both hardness and elastic modulus, with the 4% composition showing the best improvement. Surface deformation analysis using scanning probe microscopy and X-ray diffraction reveals the least deformation at 4% Ag and the highest at 1% Ag. These experimental observations are supported by numerical simulations. The findings indicate that incorporating Ag can significantly improve the mechanical performance of Al 7075, enhancing its suitability for demanding aerospace applications and other high-stress conditions. |
