| Abstract Scope |
Carbon storage and enhanced hydrocarbon recovery applications involve interactions of carbonates with injected CO2 fluid. This process results in significant changes in the pore structure, porosity, and permeability of the carbonate rocks. Reliable prediction of the performance of carbon storage and oil recovery reservoirs requires an understanding of the effect of rock-fluid interactions on rock microstructure. Neutron-based techniques are excellent tools for complementing x-ray tomography data and enhancing microstructure characterization. Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) and Ultra Small Angle Neutron Scattering (USANS) provide bulk information about internal pore distributions. In this work, we will demonstrate the application of neutron scattering in evaluating rock microstructure changes due to rock-fluid reactions. |
