| Abstract Scope |
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO) is dedicated to pioneering research, development, and demonstration of cutting-edge materials and manufacturing process technologies. These initiatives are critical to supporting a globally dominant U.S. manufacturing and industrial base, essential for a resilient energy system and secure supply chain.
Welding research and additive manufacturing play an important role in producing critical components for energy systems. It enables the production of high-performance, complex components that would be difficult or impossible to manufacture conventionally and domestically across energy generation, storage, and distribution.
This presentation will provide an overview of AMMTO’s mission and showcase a variety of technological breakthroughs and national impact, as well as federal funding opportunities. Key topics include: 1) the integration of advanced welding and AM materials into energy systems, 2) innovative welding and additive manufacturing processes 3) digital acceleration tools including AI/ML to support material qualification, performance optimization and scale up for energy industry applications. |
