| Abstract Scope |
Shape memory alloys (SMA), such as Ni-Ti, gained a lot of attention since they are known as promising candidates for actuation and damping applications. Additions of Hf and Zr are well known to increase the transformation temperatures and functional stability. However, processing and material costs of Ni-Ti-Hf-based SMAs often limit wide spread applications. Additive manufacturing (AM) processes may help to overcome this issue, since they allow for direct microstructure design. Thus, the present study focuses on the possibility of microstructure design in Ni-Ti-Hf-based SMAs using different AM processes. The impact of process induced defects, microstructure evolution and chemistry on the functional properties is discussed in view of the applied processing parameters. |
