| Abstract Scope |
Hydrogen-based co-reduction of mixtures of metal oxides offers a sustainable pathway for processing high-entropy alloys (HEAs) through a combined reduction-sintering process. This work compares the reduction behavior of compacted oxide precursors targeting alloy compositions CoFeNiMn and (CoFeNiMn)90V10 (at.%). Isothermal reduction heat treatments were carried out at 1050 °C under a dilute hydrogen-argon atmosphere. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the microstructural evolution of the two compositions as a function of heat-treatment time. The influence of the vanadium oxide addition will be discussed with respect to the composition of the metallic phases and remnant oxides, as well as the role of the transient liquid phase resulting from the melting of V2O5 during the initial stages of the reduction process. |
